AI as your career coach

Many people make one CV and send it to every job on LinkedIn and Naukri. Most companies now sort applications with software before a person reads them. That software looks for the words in the job post. A generic CV often gets passed over. In this lesson, you'll use AI to tailor your CV to one job, practise a tough interview, and prepare for the salary conversation.

Asking AI to write a CV from scratch, or letting it invent experience to fit the job post.

What was asked

“A junior operations analyst asked AI to write a CV for a Senior Product Manager role at a fintech company.”

What the AI said

“The AI wrote an impressive CV with lines like 'spearheaded multi-million dollar API migrations' and 'led cross-functional engineering pods'.”

What went wrong: The CV got through the first screen. In the interview, the panel asked about the payment system behind one of those lines. The candidate couldn't answer, and the firm stopped the process. Use AI to show your real work well. Never let it invent work you didn't do.

How it works: the mentor over tea

Picture a senior relative who runs a team at a large firm in Bengaluru. On a Sunday, you hand them your CV. They don't flatter you. They point at one line: 'Responsible for managing sales reports.' They ask: how many accounts? What got better? Together you rewrite it: 'Reconciled daily billing across 45 wholesale accounts with no missed deadlines.' AI can play that honest mentor for every line of your CV, as long as the facts come from you.

Three ways to use AI in a job search

1. Find the gaps against the job post

Paste the job post and your real CV. Ask: 'Which three must-have requirements are weakly shown in my CV? How can I describe my real work more clearly?' Then add only facts you can prove.

2. Practise a hard interview

Ask the AI to play a sceptical hiring manager. It asks one hard question at a time. If your answer is vague, it asks a follow-up before moving on. Say your answers out loud.

3. Prepare for the offer conversation

Give the AI the offer, what you want, and any salary figures you found, with where you found them. Ask it to draft a polite, firm reply. It helps you say your case clearly. It can't tell you what the company will pay, and it shouldn't invent market rates.
